Nana Attakora Amaniampong, a member of Ghana’s U-17 World Cup-winning team has called on Ghanaians to give Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor the needed support to succeed.
The former Dreams FC, Accra Hearts of Oak S.C and Asante Kotoko SC gaffer has been tasked to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) and qualify the country for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
With many questioning the competence of Akonnor, Amaniampong believes the former Black Stars skipper has the experience to manage the team and with the needed support, he will win trophies.
“CK Akonnor needs to be given more time to work,” he told Asempa FM on the Ultimate Sports Show.
“He, unfortunately, came at a time when there was no football. Ghanaians had lost interest in football then but I believe with the necessary support, he will succeed.
“I will call on Ghanaians to unite and support him and I believe he will win trophies,” he added.
Akonnor was named as Kwasi Appiah’s replacement earlier this year by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
He is deputized by David Duncan.
