Globacom congratulates Black Stars

Accra, June 6, GNA - The headline sponsor of Ghana's National footba= ll team, the Black Stars, Globacom, has sent a message of congratulations to the players and handlers of the team for executing a superb victory which sufficiently guarantees Ghana's qualification for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

In a release issued in Accra copied to GNA Sports after the Black Star= s beat their Congolese counterparts the Red Devils 3-1, the African telecommunications giants, extolled the players, the head coach and technical handlers for working hard to consolidate their leadership of Grou= p I and inch closer to a berth at next year's Cup of Nations to be hosted jointly by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

"We at Glo are happy to observe that, in spite of the outcome of the first leg encounter in Congo, the entire playing body of the Black Stars as well as their technical handlers, approached last Friday's game with great seriousness and took nothing for granted. We have no doubt that if this posture and mindset will be maintained by the team throughout its continental campaign, the Ghana national team will be a formidable contender for the 2012 trophy."

The release used the opportunity to wish the Black Stars the best of luck as they travel to Asia to play their South Korean counterparts in a friendly game on Tuesday and urged the team to approach the match with the same seriousness it attached to Friday's qualifier since the outcome will influence Ghana's standing on the FIFA rankings.

The Black Stars with Friday's victory now have 10 points and maintained their leadership at the top of Group I, ahead of Sudan which also has 10 points but are inferior on goal aggregate to Ghana. Glo has been the headline sponsor of Ghana's male national teams as well as the Glo Premier League since 2009 and is the sole sponsor of Ghana's football supporting group 96 the Ghana National Supporters' U= nion (GHANSU).

Last February, Glo took its support for Ghanaian soccer and the national team one notch higher when ace Black Stars' striker, Asamoah Gya= n was signed on by the company as one of its brand ambassadors.
