Gold Fields Bids Stars Farewell

Sponsors of the Prediction league (link) on ghanaweb.com and headline Sponsors of the senior national soccer side, Gold Fields, Tarkwa and Damang Ghana Limited, ahead of the 27th African Cup of Nations has bid the team farewell.

In a relaxed atmosphere at the mining company's plush offices in Accra, where it hosted officials of the team before leaving the country for South Africa.

Dr Tonny Aubynn, Head of Corporate Affairs, Gold Fields, emphasized his outfit's continued support for the Stars.

The playing body was absent at the gathering, owing to their preparation for the trip that evening, but Dr. Aubynn did not hesitate to relay his company's solidarity message to the head coach Milovan Rajevac and Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, to go for the ultimate in Angola.

Mr. Nyantakyi thanked Gold Fields for their financial assistance over the years and gave them the assurance that: "The only way we can pay Gold Fields back for their support will be to lift the trophy in Angola, and that will be a precursor for the South Africa 2010 World Cup."

The FA boss gave the assurance that what happened in Egypt in 2006 will not happen to the team again despite been paired with countries like Togo, Cote d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

Gold Fields presented some souvenirs it referred to as "The Midas touch" to Messrs Nyantakyi and Rajevac for use, during the forthcoming Angola tourney.
