Goldfields Beat Atletico 1-0 in CAF Cup Match

Obuasi Goldfields of Ghana narrowly defeated Angola's Atletico Sports Aviacao 1-0 in their one-eighth CAF Cup match played Monday at the Obuasi Sports Stadium in Central Ghana.

The match was postponed from Sunday due to the three-day national mourning in Ghana following a stampede at the Accra Sports Stadium that claimed 127 lives on 9 May.

Spectator turn out at the match was low apparently because memories of the disaster haunted fans.

The match should have also been played on Tuesday, but was brought forward because the Angolans said they could not bear the cost of their chartered plane.

A minute-long silence was observed in memory of the victims of the Accra Sports Stadium tragedy shortly before the kick-off.

Nana Arhin Duah scored Goldfields lone goal through a header in the 43rd minute.
