The Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah has indicated that government intends to construct three multi-purpose community parks by the close of year 2017.
According to him, the move is to curb the growing cases of new localities without sports facilities across the country.
“…Going forward, it’s about developing community parks across the country… communities are springing up without decent parks. These days you go to a community and you see kids blocking roads just to play games.
“Our emphasis is to start the construction of community parks. This year, we are going to construct three of them – a decent and multi-purpose type,” the minister told media men.
Isaac Asiamah noted that the various district assemblies are expected to tap into the initiative to help develop sports from the grass root level.
“Our focus is to develop grass root sports … decent, not that too expensive community parks that we can do. We have a model that we have developed. After the launch we will urge all district assemblies to come on board so we can develop these parks across the country,” he stated.
Last Tuesday, the Youth and Sports Minister visited the Accra Sports Stadium and Kaneshie Sports Complex to assess the state of the facilities.
