Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has reiterated the Nana Akufo-Addo government’s commitment of fulfilling its promise of a stadium in each of the orphaned regions in the country by the end of its four-year term.

Currently, Ghana has a national stadium in five separate regions while the same number – Eastern Brong Ahafo, Eastern, Volta, Upper East and West regions lack such a sporting facility.

Speaking after a Ghana 60th Independence anniversary health walk in Accra, the second gentleman of the land said:

“Sports development is one area that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wants to focus on and we want to make sports a very key tool in our social and economic development.”

“…We are going to make sure that we have the facilities for sports development.

“There are five regions in this country that do not have sports stadia and Nana Akufo-Addo has made the pledge that ‘Insha Allah’ by the end of his four years, all regions in this country will have a sports stadium,” Dr. Bawumia stated while addressing patrons of the health walk over the weekend.

This year, government has increased the budget allocation for the Youth and Sports Ministry to GH¢46.19 million, a 107% increase in the amount for year 2016.
