Back in 2006, Ghanaian gospel musician Grace Ashly had one of the hottest songs in the country titled ‘Ghana Black Stars.’
Grace Ashly’s song was the toast of many as it served as a morale booster for both fans and players.
In an interview WITH WHO monitored by GhanaWeb, the gospel musician recounted how she met the former president of Ghana.
In what she described as a divine encounter, Grace Ashly disclosed that she was initially denied entry into the Osu Castle, which served as the seat of government.
According to her, she had to fight her way to meet the former president after she was denied access to the castle.
“He was at the Castle, and I planned to pay him a visit, but certain people prevented me at his reception. I didn’t know I needed to book an appointment, but just like the Bible said, ‘the violent taketh it by force,’ I had to force my way in. I was arguing with the people when Kufuor sent someone to enquire what the issue was, and just like that, he sent for me to come into his office.”
Grace Ashly stated that the former president “described me as a woman with a man’s heart. I’m sure it was God who set up this meeting because I had nothing to say.”
According to her, she never paid Kufuor a visit until four years later when she released her popular Black Stars song and nearly faced another resistance.
“I only went to visit my uncle, who was an aide to Kufuor, but I didn’t know he was around. It was when I was leaving that Nana Ama, the ex-president’s daughter, informed me that her dad had just left. She directed me to come the next day, and that was it. I went there with my song, and Kufuor took me in like his daughter.”
