Grant should take over only after AFCON - Sam Johnson

Former Black Stars defender, Sam ‘Foyoo’ Johnson believes that coach Maxwell Konadu should be allowed to handle the Black Stars during the 2015 AFCON.

The Ghana Football Association has named former Chelsea coach, Avram Grant as the man to lead the Stars in Equatorial Guinea, after the Stars managed to top their group to seal qualification.

But Sam Johnson believes that once Konadu qualified the team and knows all about the players, he should be the better person to take charge at Equatorial Guinea.

“I think Maxwell Konadu has done well to qualify us to the Nations Cup and I believe that he deserves to be given the nod to lead the team in the 2015 AFCON”.

“If we give it to the new coach it will not only make him feel as if he can’t do the job, but also it will put some pressure on the new coach”, Sam Johnson mentioned in an interview with sportscrusader.com.

According to him we as a nation must make sure that we encourage our own coaches locally and motivate them to achieve more for the various national teams.

“It will be the best decision the Ghana Football Association will take ahead of the 2015 AFCON, and will give Maxwell some amount of confidence in his future as a coach.”

“We are creating the impression that he (Maxwell) cannot take charge of the Stars, but lets not forget that he qualified us”, Sam Johnson added.
