Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, has confirmed that Accra Great Olympics will never participate in the Homowo Cup again after failing to respectfully honour their invitation.
Last year, Accra Hearts of Oak were paired against Accra Great Olympics for the Gbese Homowo Cup. However, Olympics pulled out of the match at the last minute after tickets had been sold and money had been invested.
The organizers had to call off the match due to Olympics' late pull-out.
At a press conference on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Nii Ayi-Bonte disclosed that he has cut ties with the Olympics team.
“I will never invite Great Olympics to any football game again due to the disrespect they showed by not honouring my invitation last year,” Nii Ayi-Bonte stated.
For the 2024 Gbese Homowo Cup, Hearts of Oak will face Hearts of Lions in a match that will take place on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
