Black Stars General Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has expressed gratitude to the playing body and Ghanaians at large for their support in ensuring that the team made it to the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt by beating the Bissau-Guineans 2 – 0.

Prior to their win over the Wild Dogs, the Black Stars drew with Benin and Cameroon, respectively in their first two games, which put their qualification hopes in the balance.

For Gyan, the victory against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, 2 July 2019 was a well-deserved one.

“It’s a very important win, and this evening, I celebrate the effort of every single player in ensuring that we made it to the next stage of the competition and now that we have qualified for the next stage of the competition, we are just waiting for our next opponents. We are happy. This is just the beginning. You know it has been a very difficult journey.

“We drew in the first two games. Today, we have got a win, so, we are very happy today. It is, however, not over yet. We have to stay focused. We have got a long way to go. The battle is far from over,” he told ClassSports’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang who is in Egypt covering the Afcon.
