Guinea women's team sneak into town

Accra, July 22, GNA - The women's soccer team of Guinea arrived in Ghana last night ahead of their African Women Championship (AWC) qualifier billed against the Black Queens at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The team, which arrived at the Kotoka International Airport around 22:30 aboard a Ghana Airways flight included 18 players and eight officials.

The Guineans are currently lodging at the Airport-based Miklyn Hotel and are expected to train at the Accra Sports Stadium this evening.

The arrival of the team put to rest the speculations that the visitors might refuse to honour the second leg due to the outcome of the first game played in Conakry two weeks ago.

The Queens emerged victors in the Conakry game with a humiliating 13-0 win to render Saturday's game a mere formality. The game qualifies the winner to the fourth Championship scheduled to take place in South Africa in September.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in consultation with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has declared a free gate to supporters who will throng to the stadium on Saturday. The move, according to Mr Aloysius Denkabe, Chairman of the Queens Management Committee is to afford the "crazy" soccer loving Ghanaians, another opportunity of seeing the Queens in action after their abortive "Valentines Day" outing against the Super Falcons of Nigeria when they lost through penalties.

Speaking with the GNA Sports, he said, "We want to give every soccer lover, the opportunity to see the talents of the girls and to cheer them to absolute victory," he added.
