The Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan joins Ghanaians to lament the country’s failure to qualify for the ongoing Fifa World Cup in Russia.

The national team made a debut appearance at the 2006 edition in Germany, before a follow-up qualification four years later in South Africa and were present at Brazil 2014.

However, they finished third in the 2018 qualifiers behind Egypt and Uganda, consequently missing out.

“We went to the World Cup between 2006 and 2014 and so, it seems we are used to going to the tournament. But we did not make it there this time and everyone is gutted at that," Gyan told BBC.

"But we are looking to the future because we have quality, young players coming through who also want to participate in the World Cup.

"We did not participate [in the 2018 edition] but life goes on. We have to stay focused and wish the African teams in Russia well and then see what happens in the future,” he added.

Ghana are the third African country aside Cameroon and Senegal to reach the quarterfinals of the Fifa World Cup.
