Gyan mother's funeral underway in Accra

Funeral of the mother of Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan is underway at the deceased residence in Gbawe, Accra.

Cecelia Love Amoako died in November last year in a car crash.

The final funeral rites which will span for three days will have high profile personalities in attendance.

Ghana President John Mahama, former presidents; John Kuffour and Jerry Rawlings are expected to pay their final respects as the Gyan family keeps wake on Friday.

Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho and Members of Parliament, Ministers and other government officials will also be in attendance.

Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akuffo-Addo and members of the opposition are also expected to attend the function.

Current and former national team players, officials from the Ghana FA, friends and sympathizers have all been invited to pay their final respects.

The mortal remains of Cecelia Amoako will be flown to her hometown, Mamponteng on Saturday morning where she will be buried.

The traveling party will then return on the same day for the final phase of the function at her residence in Gbawe.

The three-day ceremony will be capped with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday in Accra.

Madam Amoako who died before her 61st birthday was succeeded by a husband and four children, two of which have represented Ghana at international level.
