Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has responded to local reports claiming he reduced his age by ten years.
Reports in the local media this week indicated that the Shanghai SIPG striker, who celebrated his 30th birthday a couple of days ago in Accra, is rather 40, according to an interview granted by his father George Gyan.
However, the former Sunderland striker's father has vehemently denied granting such an interview, threatening a legal action against media outlets for the ‘fabricated story’.
“Tell them I’m 100 years. I say my real age is 100 years,” Gyan told Angel FM. “They must write this to let the whole world know that I am 100 years old, but not 30 years. This is unprofessional work and whoever is behind this action is unprofessional.
“Any news platform that comes out wants to use my image or that of other people to become popular, which is unfair,” he added.
Gyan earned his Ghana debut against Somalia in 2003. He has gone on to become the country's all-time top scorer with 48 goals.
