Gyan speaks on unfamiliar fringe role at 2019 AFCON

General Captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan has spoken about his limited role at the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Kayserispor forward has made only one appearance in the three matches played so far- as a late substitute in Ghana’s 0-0 draw with Cameroon on match day two.

Despite his obvious disappointment, Ghana’s all-time scorer insists he is happy to wait and seize the opportunity anytime it comes;

“I need the playing time but I’m enjoying myself because the team is winning. This is my 16th year in the national team and I’m not the only player this has happened to” he told reporters.

“We have different coach who wants different things. The most important thing is that I have to be ready mentally and physically when I’m given the opportunity.

Asked if he feels bad about his diminishing presence in the team, the 32 year old old responded;

“Every player wants to play it’s a normal thing but at the end of the day we are getting the results we want”

“I’m not the coach I’m a player and I abide by what the coach says. I don’t think I’m the only player who has been in this situation. So we have to pray for the young ones because we are in a different generation”
