Hamza off to Cairo for Olympics touch relay

Accra, June 9, GNA - Hamza Mohammed of Kumasi-based King Faisal football club on Wednesday, left Accra for Cairo to participate in the Olympic touch run scheduled to take place on Friday, June 11.

The player who would be away for four days is the only Ghanaian nominated by the sponsors of the event, Coca Cola to participate. Hamza is scheduled to run for 300 meters with the touch, which is being taken through all the five continents and is scheduled to arrive back in Athens, venue of this year's Olympics some few days before the opening ceremony.

Hamza, was selected by the sponsors, Coca-Cola for emerging the best player in this year's Coca-Cola Top 4 competition which is a pre-season tournament for Ghanaian clubs that finish first four in the league.

In an interview with the GNA Sports before his departure, Hamza said he felt great since he is the only Ghanaian nominated to take part in such a prestigious event that happens once in a lifetime. "I feel the event would enhance my experience as a footballer and would enrich my curriculum vitae"

He said sports only rewards hard work and discipline and that the offer is his reward for years of hard work and dedication. Hamza urged all players who want to emulate his achievement to be prepared to work hard.

Samuel Osafo, Market Developer of Coca-Cola, West Africa said the nomination of Hamza is to encourage up and coming players to work hard in their desire to achieve results.
