Happy FM holds ‘Damehene’ (Draughts) Championship

Happy Fm, Ghana’s Number One Sports Station, has once again proven that it is the station to look out for in the promotion of lesser known sports by organizing the first ever Draught Championship dubbed ‘Damahene’.

The championship is scheduled to come off from 29-30 August, 2015 at the Bukom Park, Accra.

Draughts, popularly known in Ghana as “Dame” is mostly played by adults in various communities in Ghana and on a small scale.

It is famous for challenging one’s thinking abilities and helps to improve the player’s problem solving abilities.

The maiden edition of the Draught Championship will feature 192 of the nation’s finest players who will be competing for the ultimate prize.

Mr. Emmanuel Akrumah, the General Manager of Happy Fm, said, ‘’as the number one sports station in Ghana, Happy Fm is committed to the promotion of lesser known sports,’’ adding that, ‘’we want to bring to limelight the many talents we have as a country in draughts and other sports as well.’’

Mr. Akrumah indicated that the Draught Championship is a novelty which is going to be held annually and will be a community-based event in order to encourage more participation from people.

Commenting on the draught championship, the acting president of the Greater Accra Draughts Association, Park Kojo Okyere, thanked Happy Fm for this event and promised a very exciting game on the day.

He urged followers to come and support to make the ‘Damehene’ Championship a success.

The Championship will be a two-day event comprising of the preliminary and the knockout stage leading to the emergence of the overall winner.

Winners of the championship will receive prizes ranging from cash, television sets and other product prizes.
