Harrison Afful restored in Esperance's CAF Champions League squad

Ghana defender Harrison Afful has been restored to Esperance’s CAF Champions League squad having been left out in their provisional roster.

The 28-year-old’s name was conspicuously missing from the squad announced by the Tunisian giants early January for this year’s continental club competition.

Afful’s omission gave out a staggering hint of his imminent departure from the club with just six months left to run on his existing deal.

The left-back has been with the Red and Gold for the past five years – during which period he has won five domestic league titles and the Champions League crown.

There was a general feeling the Ghana international was gearing towards the end of his successful stay in North Africa – a feeling which was further fueled by his omission from the club’s Champions League squad.

The ex-Fetteh Feyenoord player has, however, been returned to the squad, sources have revealed to GHANAsoccernet.com.

This means the left-back will see out the remainder of his time left on his existing deal with Esperance.

This also means Afful will be eligible to join any club of his choice on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign unless he signs a contract renewal.

Afful can even open talks with suitors over a transfer under the Bosman Ruling.

The defender is currently with the Ghana national team at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where they play rivals Cote d’Ivoire in the finals of the competition on Sunday.
