Hasaacas holds Hearts

Accra, Oct. 13, GNA - Sekondi Hasaacas on Wednesday managed to hold Accra Hearts of Oak to a one all drawn game in their seventh week league match at the Accra Sports stadium.

The result sent fans of the home team into a state of doubt as they could not believe the performance of their idol team, which has a tough assignment against Sable D' Batie of Cameroon in the Confederations Cup Competition on Sunday.

Many of the fans who thought the team was capable of recording victory over Hasaacas to set the tone for a massive win on Sunday, dropped the wishful thinking after referee Joseph McCarthy whistled for the end of the game.

Both sides could not sell any good football to the scanty fans who thronged the stadium as their game plan lacked urgency but it was Francis Aduhene of Hasaacas drew first blood when he headed home a cross from his colleague to register the first goal in the 36th minutes. Hearts in a bid to get the equaliser before the close of the half, launched series of unsuccessful attacks on the visitors but the resolute defence of Hasaacas stood firm in the face of the pressure to keep their lead to end the half.

Hearts on resumption relied on the incessant crosses from Bernard Don Bortey who operated on both wings of the field to get the equaliser, but the likes of Prince Tagoe and Louis Agyeman upfront, failed to covert the chances that came their way.

As the game progressed, it was Lawrence Adjah Tetteh who defied his height to out jump the defenders of Hasaacas to register the equaliser with a header from Don Bortey's cross in the 52nd minute. Contrary to the expectations of the home fans that the equaliser will open the doors for more goals for Hearts, it rather proved negative as they struggled unsuccessfully to get on top.

Not even the inclusion of out-and-out strikers like Wisdom Abbey and Ablade Morgan on the part of Hearts could redeem the image of the Phobians, whilst the "Hasmal boys" on other hand could have won the day, had they mustered enough courage but they seemed to be satisfied with the one point and resorted to delay tactics as well as blowing away the chances that came their way in the dying minutes of the game.
