Medeama boss Bashir Hayford has admitted that his side needs tweaking in the run up to the new season, after losing late to in-form Chelsea in the Glo8 final. The match was played at the Accra Stadium, after which the gaffer expressed worry about his side´s wing-play.

“There were one or two problems but we need quite a bit of work on the wings. They did not find their rhythm and that was key in the way things turned out,” he told SuperSport.com

Despite Chelsea´s overall play being outstanding in this tournament, they found Medeama hard to break down for much of the game. Chelsea wingers Prince Anokye, Owusu Jackson and Isaac Amponsah were particularly effective in pressuring unraveling Medeama´s defence.

Francis Coffie, acquired on a free transfer, and Hans Cofie had been deployed to use their speed against Chelsea before kickoff. However, Chelsea used their wingers in very unorthodox fashion as they crisscrossed both ends of the field to tire Medeama down early.

It eventually paid off in the 84th minute when a move from the right got to Abdul Basit, whose brilliant effort around Medeama´s defence ended with a low grounder that beat Stephen Ahorlu in goal.

“I know people blamed Ahorlu for the goal but it was not that easy to save. The ball approached him from an acute angle.”

Hayford guided Medeama to fourth-place last season, only losing out to Kotoko´s third on a +5 goal difference.
