Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford has urged caution regarding expectations for the new Ghana Premier League season, emphasising that the team’s performance will largely depend on the resources and preparations available.
Following a penalty shootout loss to Hearts of Oak in the Homowo Cup, Hayford reflected on the challenges ahead.
Last season, Heart of Lions finished in 13th place with 45 points, and as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign, the coach remains pragmatic about their prospects.
“I cannot sit here and make definitive predictions about our success,” Hayford told Peace FM. “The performance will depend on the resources and materials I have at my disposal. Once the league starts and I see how well we have prepared, I will have a better idea. For now, it’s too early to make accurate forecasts.”
Hayford plans to assess his team’s capabilities and the performance of other clubs in the early stages of the season before making any concrete statements about their chances."
Let’s start the league, observe the players, and watch a few matches of other clubs before drawing any conclusions,” he added.
Heart of Lions will begin their Ghana Premier League campaign against Aduana Stars, and Hayford’s approach reflects a careful strategy to build a competitive team for the season ahead.
