Ashanti Gold chief executive officer Kudjoe Fianoo has urged Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko to work harder and stop living on “past glories” if they hope to revive their dwindling fortunes.
The two clubs, who boast an impressive 43 league titles, have endured patchy moments in recent times, a struggle that was very evident in the just-concluded season.
Hearts had to rely on three points won from a protest to leap from the relegation zone, while Kotoko only confirmed their survival on the last day of the season after an emphatic 4-0 victory over Aduana Stars.
“I think that they [Hearts and Kotoko] are in a haste to achieve results but in football you have your ups and downs,” Fianoo told Joy FM.
“Let your stakeholders understand that you are down and that you would be rebuilding.
“Hearts did it and it worked for them. They did not build overnight the 1964 battalions that won the 2000 Caf Champions League and 2001 Caf Super Cup.”
The Phobians finished fourth on the log, three points above relegated Heart of Lions, while the Porcupine Warriors occupied two places behind the Accra-based side.
“We need to have that patience. Hearts and Kotoko have to work at it and not rely on past glories.”
Last week, Fianoo led the Miners to claim their first league title in 19 years, having previously suffered a series of near misses.
