The empire of Accra Hearts of Oak teeters on the brink of disintegration as two important members of the team Alhaji Hearts and Bernard Dong Bortey (pictured) have announced their exit from the team.
Loosing the league title to Kumasi Asante Kotoko after six years of dominance, one of the influential members of the management of the Accra based team, Alhaji “Hearts” Sulemana Brimah has tendered in his resignation letter.
Alhaji Hearts in a letter to the Chairman of the club Thomas Okine said, “my reason for resigning is personal.” He thanked the Chairman and the teeming supporters of the club the opportunity they him to serve the club. is experience of serving with the club for nearly 35 years will be sorely missed by the Phobians. In his years with the team, Alhaji Hearts served as a Masseur before leaving to work in United States. He returned to serve as the Team Manager, Protocol Director and Management Member
As if that was not enough, the most valuable player of the team Bernard Don Bortey this morning told Radio Gold that he will not be extending his contract with the Phobians when it expires in February. The nimble footed offensive midfielder is reported to have told the Accra based radio station that, he was not fairly treated by the club in the wake of his trials with the Swiss first division team FC Zurich.
Meanwhile unconfirmed reports indicates that players of the team are preparing for a revolt as their wages for 3 months have not been paid. Speaking to GHANAWEB the Ghanaian journalist Lawrence Opare Otoo confirmed the rumours in Accra and said it is “true that the salary of the players has not been paid for 3 months. Some of the players have confirmed this privately to me.”
The number of players leaving to live abroad increases by the day. After the exit of Stephen Tetteh and Osumanu Amadu, midfielder Charles Allotey is the latest to join the bandwagon, as he is reported to be living in London currently. More are expected to follow with the news that some of them have secured their visas to travel.
With the announcement by the Board Chairman Ato Ahwoi that, he would be quitting after the league, season fresh members are needed to run the team. The rumour in Accra is that, the businessman Alhaji Asuma Banda has expressed interest in taking over the team but that is yet to be confirmed by him. The Okyehene is also reported to be interested in the running the affair of the team but that too is yet to be confirmed.
