Hearts Play Liberty Again

CHAMPION CLUB, Accra Hearts of Oak will have the opportunity to avenge the defeat they suffered at the hands of Liberty Professionals when the two teams meet for this year’s H.P. Nyemitei Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Cup match.

The match, scheduled for Wednesday December 5, 2007 at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, would be under the sponsorship of the State Insurance Company (SIC), where the late H.P. Nyemitei was a pioneer executive.

Last year’s H.P. Nyemitei SWAG Cup was lifted by Obuasi Ashantigold when they defeated Asante Kotoko by 1-0 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

Ashantigold, who are serving a three-home match ban by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee, declined to defend the Nyemitei SWAG Cup due to their busy schedule.

SWAG then decided to call on Hearts and Liberty to play, as the encounter would give the Phobians the opportunity to avenge the painful defeat they suffered at the hands of Liberty Professionals last Sunday November 25, 2007 at the El-Wak Stadium during the team’s off-season training ahead of the OneTouch Premiership which kicked off yesterday.

Liberty on the other hand, having won the first game, would like to show that their victory over the Phobians was no fluke.

Sources close to SWAG Secretariat indicate that apart from the appearance fee for each team and the Nyemitei trophy at stake, there are other prizes at stake.

The sources revealed also that on the same day, the Majority Leaders of Parliament would play their Minority counterparts as a curtain raiser to the Liberty/Hearts match which starts at 3.00pm.
