President of New Edubiase Football Club, Abdul Salam Yakubu, says he wants to see both Ghana’s heavyweight clubs signing big players from Africa.
The outspoken football administrator feels it is high time Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak start recruiting marquee signings from Africa, as he believes both of them are capable judging from their pedigree in Africa.
Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are looking forward to bolster their squad ahead of the 2015/16 league seasons-with Kotoko having signed nine players so far.
Abdul Salam believes that, the two most glamorous clubs are the back-bone of smaller clubs in terms of financial support in Ghana and should they struggle financially; definitely it will have effect on them and vice-versa.
“We the smaller clubs are not looking at what they’re doing right now in terms of signings. We want them (Kotoko and Hearts) to sign big players from Africa.” he told Kumasi-based Fox FM.
“Both clubs are the league’s heavyweights in Ghana .We all depend on them in carrying out our football administration work. Financially, if things goes on well for them, we the smaller clubs also benefit and vice-versa.” he added.
The vociferous bankroller continued: “If we produce players; who are supposed to buy them? Definitely, Kotoko and Hearts are to buy them. Personally, I rank them as big clubs who are on the same level with TP Mazembe, Zamalek and Al Ahly in Africa, unless they don’t see that themselves,” he concluded
