Head coach of FC Samatex Stephen Abugri says Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko cannot win this season’s Ghana Premier League title with expatriate coaches at the helm.
Asante Kotoko are occupying 2nd spot on the log with just inferior goal difference separating them and first placed side Aduana Stars with their Croatian tactician Zdravko Lugarusic while arch-rivals Hearts of Oak are not far off in 7th position with their Scottish coach Frank Nuttall after match day 8.
However, Abugri, who parted ways with the Phobians in the off season indicated that the nation’s two big clubs will not realize their dreams of annexing this campaign’s league because of their past history with foreign coaches.
Speaking to Accra-based Green FM, Abugri said, “The question we should ask ourselves is, how many foreign coaches have come to Ghana and won the league, I stand to be corrected but I cannot remember even one. Last year were there not foreign coaches in the league but it was one unknown coach Adepah who led a modest club like Wa All Stars to win their maiden title.”
“I’m not cursing Kotoko and Hearts but let’s wait and see whether they will win the league. It’s my belief that the league will be won by a Ghanaian coach and not expatriate because I believe the black man is capable of managing his own affairs.”
