Hearts keeper McCarthy to return to training

Ghanaian Premier League giants Hearts of Oak will have first-choice goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy back to training in two weeks time the club’s spokesperson has confirmed.

The 26-year-old suffered an ankle-twist and was rushed to hospital during Hearts of Oak’s 3-1 reverse at Liberty Professionals last week.

Final scans performed at the 37 Military Hospital have revealed no major damage to the keeper and he has been told by Hearts’ medical consultants to resume training in 14 days time.

“Doctors have brought to our notice that he will return in two weeks’ time. So we are just waiting for him to come back. We are just praying he recover within the two weeks the doctors have given us,” Hearts Communications head Muheed Sayed told freelance journalist Frank Darkwah.

The Phobians have called second-choice Tetteh Luggard from his self-imposed vacation and he is expected to man the posts when they face Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

Luggard has not been active for Hearts of Oak since November 2013 when he was humiliated by fans after conceding a cheeky goal and was replaced by McCarthy during the era of David Duncan.

Sunday’s game will present an opportunity for him to convince Mohammed Polo of his abilities and resurrect confidence around him. Youngster Kingsley Kissi who replaced McCarthy conceded two goals and is deemed amateurish to be in the post in a crucial tie against a stubborn Heart of Lions side.
