Hearts of Oak outline activities to mark 108 anniversary celebration Ghanaian Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak have lined up a number of activities to mark their 108th anniversary celebrations which according to the Public Relations Officers of the club’s Chapters Committee marks a complete departure from their old ways of ‘cutting cake and drinking’ at their secretariat.

At a media launch held at the Accra Sports Stadium, NCC PRO Jones Asante Mfodwo, better known as Kobby Jones, disclosed that this year’s celebration which is in partnership with Omy TV will see the club honour some current and past players, hold quizzes and jamma competitions and also educate the supporters on their ‘rich history’.

“This time we want to do things differently hence the grand Hearts gathering. We are happy to say that the NCC and OMY TV wants this year’s celebration to be unique and different and make sure that every Hearts fan is happy. Every year we go to the secretariat, buy cake, cut it, drink and leave but this year we want to depart from that and do something different from what we’ve been doing”.

The ‘Grand Hearts Gathering’ as it has been dubbed is expected to be one of the most colourful and biggest celebrations of the club’s ‘birthday’ with musicians Wendy Shay, Fameye and Sister Afia billed to perform on the night.

Hearts’ Chief Executive Officer, Frederick Moore remarked that his outfit will stage a show that befits their status as ‘the greatest club in Africa’.

“I don’t think I need to remind you that Hearts is the premier club of Ghana. I also believe that we are the greatest club not just in Ghana but Africa so we need to show and prove that. It is not a small feat that this year we’ve decided to do the celebrations slightly different. With the support of Omy TV I believe that it will be a big one”, he said.

Formed on November 11, 1909, Hearts have the enviable tag of being Ghana’s oldest football club and also have a trophy haul of twenty Premier League titles, ten FA Cups, two Ghana Super Cup titles, one Confederation Cup trophy, a CAF Champions League trophy and one CAF Super Cup honours.

A rep of OMY TV, Reuben Tetteh said their partnership with Hearts of Oak is a recognition of the club as one of the two most glamorous clubs in the country. The 108 celebration has been scheduled for Saturday November 16 at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra.
