Accra Hearts of Oak Board member Frank Nelson has said the Phobians can go on to win the Ghana Premier League (GPL) with the right attitude.
He noted that the management and the fans are excited about the club’s position in the league, so far.
“Looking at where we came from last season, looking at the same matches this year and finding ourselves on top of the league, I think it is something that we have to be very happy about and also be very grateful to God [for]. For me, the road is still far, we have about nine games to go, which adds up to 27 points and so anything can happen. We just have to stay focused and keep our vision, as you can see here from the joyous atmosphere around us and the supporters’ faces. I, as a supporter and a management member of Accra Hearts of Oak, am in a joyous mood”, he told Class Sports’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang.
Mr Nelson noted that their mid-week victory over Chelsea was a morale booster for the Phobians ahead of their super clash at the Baba Yara stadium with rivals Asante Kotoko.
“We need to concentrate because we have a big match coming up next Sunday, and we are taking things one match at a time. Our next match will be against our greatest rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who incidentally, lost their [mid-week] match. I think that is a morale booster for Hearts of Oak and, as such, we must step down hard on the pedal and continue the journey”.
Mr Nelson stressed that a win against Kotoko will not only strengthen their position on the league table but will be a sweet revenge after Kotoko beat them to lift the President’s Cup.
“That would be a very big win. First of all, it would strengthen our position further on top of the league. Secondly, it’ll serve as a type of revenge for us for the matches that we lost here and the President’s Cup here on 1st July. But the important thing is that we are not looking at Kotoko as a team.
"We are looking at where we have come from over the past eight years and the fact that we have not touched the league trophy. That is an important position for us, giving us the hope that it is possible like I said earlier, we would still have about eight matches after the Kotoko match, which would give us a possible 24 points so we need to tread cautiously. Let’s see what God will do, but I believe that by Sunday, I would be able to talk some more and better define our statement,” he said.
