Hearts seek win against Olympique de Ngor

Accra Hearts of Oak will face Olympique de Ngor in the CAF Confederations Cup first leg at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra on Sunday.

Both sides are not having the best of results in their domestic league: The Phobians are lying 13th in the Ghana Premier League, with Olympique de Ngor lying 10th in their league.

Hearts of Oak have gotten a big boost from the Ghana FA for donating an amount of $30,000 ahead of the game.

Hearts of Oak brushed off AS Police of Benin with a 1-0 aggregate scoreline while de Ngor dismissed Unisport Bafang of Cameroon 3-2 on aggregate to reach the first round.

There have been a lot of pre-match comments about this game: Hebert Addo, the head coach Hearts of Oak believes his team is well prepared to carry the day.

“I think the Hearts are in good shape to give the fans a victory. For supporters, their main aim is for the team to give them a win and I hope per our preparation, we will make them happy,” he said.

The General Secretary for the Senegalese side has stated that his team are in Ghana for business.

“We came to Ghana because our club wants a win over Hearts and not to look at Ghanaian women.

“We don’t know much about this current Hearts of Oak team, but we’ve heard a lot about their previous achievements,” he said. Gilbert Fiamenyo, the marksman for the Phobians is one of the leading top scorers in the Ghana Premier League with 6 goals.

-Senegalese sides have poor performance in Ghana, having lost 9 and drawn 2 of their 11 previous visits in CAF Inter-club competitions.

-The Phobians last faced an opposition from Senegal in 2000, when they beat Jean d’Arc in the group stage of the CAF Champions League: won 4-2 in Senegal and drew 1-1 in Ghana.

-This is Olympique de Ngor’s maiden appearance in CAF Inter-club competition, whereas Hearts of Oak are regular customers in the competition and even won the CAF Champions League in 2000 and the CAF Confederations Cup in 2004, but they had last played in Africa in 2008.
