Asante Kotoko have completed the double over Coton Sport de Garoua following a 2-1 victory on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to progress to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors advanced on a 5-3 aggregate score after beating the Cameroonians 3-2 in Yaounde a week ago in the first-leg clash of the playoff round.

Captain Amos Frimpong converted a penalty on the stroke of half time before Maxwell Baakoh doubled their lead in the 53rd minute to effectively killed the tie.

The visitors reduced the deficit through Oumar Sali in the 81st minute but C.K Akunnor’s men held on to take the win.

The result meant that Kotoko have finally secured their long-awaited progress to the Group stage of CAF’s second-tier competition for the first time since 2008.

They were finalists in the maiden edition in 2004, losing the title to rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. They have since been struggling to cope with the expectations from their teeming supporters.
