Holy 'The Jaw Breaker' Dorgbetor: The talented boxer tipped for greatness

Holy Dorgbetor is the next boxing prospect that fans and pundits alike should keep an eye on.

This slender, soft-spoken young man from Mepe in the Volta Region of Ghana has been diligently working behind the scenes and is poised to make a significant impact in the crowded global featherweight division.

Holy began boxing in 2014 at his family compound in Mepe, under the tutelage of his uncle Robinson Kutsokey, a former boxer who challenged Osumanu Adama for the Ghana National and West Africa Super Welterweight championship on February 8, 2002, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Kutsokey soon recognized the precocious talent in his nephew and dedicated time and effort to his development.

Holy moved to Accra in 2016, and after some outstanding performances as an amateur, he quickly built a solid reputation for himself.

His hard work did not go unnoticed, and when former world champion Isaac Dogboe was looking for a formidable sparring partner to prepare for his rematch against Emanuel Navarrete, Holy Dorgbetor came highly recommended.

"In those five months I spent in camp with Dogboe, I really perfected my craft, which ignited in me a drive for loftier aspirations," Holy recounted.

After a victorious professional debut in June 2019, much was expected from this skilful fighter, who prefers to work behind a stinging jab and captivate his opponents with hard hooks and straight rights to secure victory.

It was hardly surprising when Dr Adae Opoku Amoako signed Holy Dorgbetor to his ACE Power Boxing Promotions, a partnership that provided a much-needed boost to Holy's career.

Following a series of impressive knockout wins and earning the nickname "Jaw Breaker," Dorgbetor dominated the vastly experienced Success Tetteh in October 2021 to claim the National and UBO Intercontinental Featherweight titles.

With his record currently standing at 10-0-1, the 24-year-old is confident he's ready to challenge the best in his division: "I'm ready for any featherweight in the world. I don’t talk much, but once I get in the ring, I'm a force to be reckoned with," he said with a wide grin.

Anticipating a debut on the world stage, his management team facilitated a training camp in Singapore last year to expose him to diverse training methods.

Currently, Holy Dorgbetor is in camp preparing for an international title bout in Accra.
