AFTER three weeks break, racing gets to top gear as the five-day Ga Homowo race meeting starts at the Accra Race Course, today.
And lucky race fans will be privileged to watch the top class horses in action in the principal race, a six-furlong dash.
Among the contestants are the two arch rivals of the turf — Sand Ring and One Step Ahead. Their clash in any race, whether cup or ordinary event, is measured for comparison and each one of them is poised to prove his superiority in the track.
Both of them were unplaced in their last outing over a distance of eight furlongs and the Race Meeting Stewards cautioned the two riders — S. Musah and Sanusi Alasa — for poor performances.
It is then obvious that the Stewards will keep eagle eyes on them tomorrow and we expect them to put up better performance.
Meanwhile, the following restructuring of the division has been made by the Classification and Handicapping Committee. Two horses have been promoted to higher divisions. They are Leader who went up from Fourth Division ‘A’ to Third Division ‘B’ and Don Diego from Fourth Division ‘B’ to Fourth Division ‘A’.
The demotions made by the committee are as follows: • From Second Division ‘B’ to Third Division ‘A’: Safura, Goddess and African Queen II. • From Second Division ‘B’ to Third Division ‘B’: Fit Night. • From Third Division ‘A’ to Third Division ‘B’ : Idetso II. • From Third Division ‘B’ to fourth Division ‘A’: London II. • From Fourth Division ‘A’ to Fourth Division ‘B’: King Wallas. The full programme for the first day’s meeting is: First Race: “Osino Handicap”, a six-furlong dash for Fourth Division ‘C’ horses.
Second Race: “Peki Stakes” open to Fourth Division ‘A’ and Third Division ‘B’ horses over a distance of eight furlongs.
