The Accra Turf Club (ATC), has announced that this year's horse racing under the distinguished patronage of President John Dramani Mahama, would commence on September.
It would take place at the new race course at Adjiriganno, near Nungua Agricultural Experimental Farm.
A statement issued by Samuel Nii Armah Turkson, Secretary of the ATC and copied the GNA Sports in Accra said registration of horses and measuring would start at La Trade Fair Site, Accra on Tuesday, July 7, 2015.
Turkson reminded all full jockeys and their apprentices to renew their licenses at the Opera Cinema premises and ensure registered jockeys do not weigh above nine stones.
He said the exact date of the commencement of races would be preceded by local races.
“As time goes on horse owners who wish to import quality horses from neighboring countries like Mali, Burkina Faso and Nigeria can do so without any hindrance,” he said.
Turkson gave the assurance that distance races such as furlongs would be decided by the Board of Stewards based on the number of horses registered.
