How the Stars fared

Wakaso Mubarak was the star-man for the Black Stars Wakaso Mubarak was the star-man for the Black Stars

The Black Stars reached the next stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after brushing aside troublesome minnows - Comoros 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon.

Avram Grant's side coasted to a graceful triumph over the Islanders and proceeded to the next stage of the challenge UD Las Palmas winger Wakaso Mubarak scored from a classy free-kick to hand the Black Stars passage to the next stage of the qualifiers.

Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew personified brilliance by excellently stepping away from two defenders inside the box and arrowing a neat effort to the top root corner.

Swansea City star Andre Ayew also impressed on an afternoon win was needed at all cost while Leicester City's Jeffrey Schlupp came off the bench hugely dominate the Comoros side of defence with his explosive pace.

GHANAsoccernet.com runs the rule over the top and flops of players who were on duty as the Black Stars sparked their winning waves in a bid to reach their fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup finals.

Razak Braimah (GOALKEEPER) 6/10

Pulled one of his best saves for Ghana after he employed a feline agility to stopAli M'Madi's spectacular volley in the opening minutes of the first-half. He was able to properly organise Ghana's rearguard.

Jonathan Mensah (CENTER-BACK) 5.5/10

Forced off the pitch in the 26th minute and replaced by FC Copenhagen versatile defender Daniel Amartey who came in to play alongside John Boye for the first time in central defence. Mensah enjoyed a fairly good game until he was replaced.

John Boye (CENTER-BACK) 6.5/10

The Turkey-based defender marshaled the backline with admirable command. Elegant and composed in defence and made it impossible for the Comoros strikeforce to make any real offensive effort.

Harrison Afful (RIGHT-BACK) 7/10

A super return to the Baba Yara Stadium for the Columbus Crew defender. Simply splendid to watch. He attacked the Comoros right side of defence at will and did so successfully many times. Set up a plausible scoring chance for Jordan Ayew but the Aston Villa forward narrowly missed.

Baba Rahman (LEFT-BACK) 6.5/10

The Chelsea man was able to contain every attacking threat that came to his area. Not needed defensively so was able to use his attacking instincts as the Black Stars exerted more pressure to breakdown the Comoros defence.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (CENTRAL MIDFIELDER) 6.5/10

The Udinese star took the place of Torino midfielder Afriyie Acquah and should have scored the opening goal for Ghana but he missed. But he recovered well from the miss to provide a solid shield in central midfield for the back four. Attracted applauds from the entire stadium with his artistry on the half-hour mark.

Man of the Match: Wakaso Mubarak (OFFENSIVE MIDFIELD) 8.5/10

The Las Palmas midfielder opened the scoring for the Black Stars with an artful free-kick in the 18th minute. Showed good composure in midfield with intelligent defence-splitting passes on an afternoon he registered his 11th Ghana goal. Obviously Ghana's best player on the pitch. He did everything on the afternoon! Great display.

Andre Ayew (LEFT-WINGER) 8/10

The Swansea City star was all-running on the afternoon as he dropped deep into midfield to initial attacks. His incisive cross from the right found Gyan in space but the skipper directed his header into the skies. He was denied by the Comoros keeper from scoring with a trademark powerful header in the 81st minute.

Solomon Asante (RIGHT-WINGER) 5.5/10

The pint-size wide-man was forced off the pitch in the 32nd minute. He had a little impact on his side of Ghana's attack except a few flash of brilliant combinations with Harrison Afful. Replaced by Leicester City's Jeffrey Schlupp.

Flop of the match: Asamoah Gyan (FORWARD) 5.5/10

Gyan went into the game chasing his 49th and 50th Ghana goals but it turned out to a disappointing afternoon as he failed to get on target. His only real chance of the game came in the first-half but he headed wide from inside the box.

Jordan Ayew (FORWARD) 7.5/10

The Aston Villa striker did not get the supplies from midfield but his extraordinary creativity led him to score the second goal for Ghana late in the second-half. Had to drop deep into the middle to search for balls. Exerted more energy in fighting for balls and showed great attacking ability.
