Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has revealed he almost took boxing as his profession before turning into a footballer.
The 29-year-old is a huge boxing fan and a confessed supporter of World Welterweight champions Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
Gyan’s love for the sport led him into becoming a boxing promoter with his Baby Jet Promotions.
His boxing syndicate managed rising talent Emmanuel Tagoe who is billed to fight next month in the UK in his bid to enhance in rankings for future World title shot.
Baby Jet Promotions have invested heavily in improving the sport in Ghana which has produced world champions in the past.
The former Sunderland hitman says his love for boxing goes beyound just investing money as part of his social contribution but then almost became a boxer himself.
“Yes it is [about boxing being one of his loves sports],” he said.
“I really enjoy the sport of boxing and now a boxing promoter.
“I have a boxer now ranked ninth in the world and he has a bout on August 29 in London.
“Financing boxing, is because in the past there are a lot of good boxers in Ghana, but now there are none.
“I want the sport of boxing in Ghana to improve back to the high level again.
“It can be considered part of my social returns but I also boxed as a kid.
“I has the talent in this area, but eventually chose football. Now sometimes boxers and coaches learn about themselves, be a great way to relax.”
