I can coach Hearts - Wellington

Henry Wellington says he would be ready to take over as the head coach of Hearts of Oak after impressing in the assistant role in their pre-season.

Former caretaker coach Yaw Preko resigned last month but Wellington has been able to send the Phobians to the final of Ghalca G6 tournament, defeating arch rivals Asante Kotoko in the semi-finals at their backyard.

Hearts were even without last season's best defender Inusah Musa as well as topscorer Cosmos Dauda for the game.

"I can do it. I can manage Hearts as the head coach if given the opportunity. Why can't I do it?" Wellington told Happy FM.

"However, let me concentrate with my current job as the assistant coach.

"That is the role I was handed initially so let me handle that for now. If it becomes necessary for the club to promote me to take the mandate as the head coach, I am ever ready to serve and deliver as expected," he added.

Hearts have appointed 20 coaches in the past ten years, an average of two coaches per season.

Goal understands that former Bechem United and Medeama coach Tom Strand is likely to be appointed new head coach after club owner Togbe Afede XIV personally talked to the Swedish on phone from his base in Sweden.
