Former Kotoko goalkeeper George Owu has opened up on some spiritual and physical difficulties he encountered in his early days at the club.

Owu joined Kotoko from Hasaacas and spent three years at the Kumasi-based club.

At the time of his move, Owu was talked up as one of the nation’s most gifted goalies who was destined for greatness.

But injuries blighted the early part of his career, forcing him to spend months on the sidelines.

In an interview with Television CK, Owu revealed the battles he had to overcome to earn the number one spot at the club.

He admitted to facing challenges at Hasaacas but Kotoko offered him a different challenge.

“When I moved to Kotoko , I suffered. When I was at Hasacaas I faced challenges but at Kotoko it was different. I couldn’t walk for three to four months. I suffered before getting the chance to play for Kotoko” .

“I got injured without knowing the cause. My leg got swollen and my waist was hurting badly. At that time too we were getting closer to the 2004 Olympic Games. We were travelling across Africa and after one of our trips I realized that my leg is swollen so I had to start treating myself”, he said.

Owusu also played for Ashgold, Al Masry and Ebusua Dwarfs.
