Flings Owusu-Agyapong, one of Ghana’s leading sprinters, has said she did not go to the Commonwealth Games to win medals, but to better her time for future competitions.
Owusu-Agyapong, who was incensed by reports in the media, that, they were short of jerseys for Ghanaian athletes compelling them engage in “wash and wear” – that is using one jersey over and over again, said her ambition was to better her time.
Speaking to Joy Fm, Owusu Agyapong said she was looking forward to making a bigger impact in future competitions such as the All Africa Games, the Olympic Games and the next Commonwealth Games.
She added that, she has been able to better her time at the Games and was happy with performance in the competition, despite her inability to win medals.
“We should be encouraged to perform better next time, but not discouraged by the Ghanaian public.
“We were rather criticised by public instead of applauding us for performance so we can win medals at the next competition.”
According to her the media has been unfair in their criticisms since the situation was not deplorable as painted.
