I don’t know what went wrong with Kwadwo Asamoah's return - George Afriyie

The management committee boss talks about the Juve man's continues absence from the national team.

Chairman of the Black Stars management committee George Afriyie says he is not aware why Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah failed to honour his words of returning to national duty.

Absent from the Black Stars since 2014, the playmaker, in 2016, indicated his readiness to make a comeback after putting behind his injury woes, and then reiterated his desire again last year.

However, the 29-year-old is yet to make himself available despite his comments, and Afriyie's situation has left even more concerns.

“It is true that at a point he indicated that he was willing to call off his absence from the national team," Afriyie, also the vice president of the Ghana Football Association, told Citi Sports.

“I don’t know what went wrong.

“Let us still give the coach the chance and if he is in his plans he will definitely be called up.

“Since this falls directly under the jurisdiction of the coach, let us allow him to take that decision.”

Asamoah last played for the Black Stars in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda in September 2014.

He lined up for Ghana at the 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cup tournaments.

This season, the utility man, who predominantly plays for Juve at left-back or left-wing-back, has made 15 and two appearances for the Old Lady in the Italian topflight and the Champions League respectively.
