Ghana Football Association President Kwasi Nyantakyi says he was expecting Andre Ayew to win the CAF Footballer of the year award.
Ayew missed out on the award which was won by Gabonese international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Ghanaian international was hoping to win the award after failing to clinch it in 2011.
Nyantakyi who was in Nigeria to present an award is dismayed by Ayew’s failure to win the award.
“I strongly believe that factors that have accounted for this worrying trend must be critically looked at,” he told the Ghanaian Times newspaper.
“Sincerely, I was hugely optimistic for Ayew, but surprisingly, he placed third outside my expectations – and I am really disappointed.
“Based on his performance with the national team and club side, I believe he deserved to win.”
The Black Stars deputy skipper will be hoping to work hard in other to clinch the award next year.
