Ashantigold defender Eric Donkor has opposed the idea of teams reducing the salaries of players due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The former Asante Kotoko left back, joins a list of Ghanaian players in the domestic scene who are not in support of the idea to emulate their foreign counterparts in Europe who have accepted to take pay cuts in order to support their clubs during these difficult times.

Most Ghana players have kicked against the decision to reduce their meagre salaries and are even requesting for more due to the negative effects of the Covid-19 on the society and economy.

Speaking to Bryt Power Sports, he said, “I’m not in bed with those calling for pay cut because salaries of local players are meager. Personally, I’m not into it, how much are Ghanaian players paid and how much do you want to pay cut them” he questioned.

“To me, pay cut doesn’t sound so well in Ghana. If a player takes GHC300 or 400 and you want to deduct a certain amount from it, how can that player survive?”

“I know things are tough now for the clubs but they should also put the players first since they are the main actors of the game” he ended.
