I’m on the same level as Messi in terms of trophies – Amankwah Mireku

Former Accra Hearts of Oak captain, Amankwah Mireku believes his trophy achievements as an ex-footballer can be compared with that of six times Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.

Amankwah Mireku is considered the most successful Hearts of Oak captain after leading the teams' historic win in the CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup, Super Cup, FA Cup glories, and seven league titles in a career that spanned for about two decades.

According to Amankwah, winning everything locally and continentally at the club level brings him on the same level as the Argentine international and Barcelona star.

“I have equally done everything Messi has done for Barcelona for Hearts of Oak. Messi has won the Champions League for Barca, he has won the UEFA Super Cup. I have also won the CAF Champions League and the CAF Cup.”

“I will not brag but it’s the reality that I can be compared to him [Messi]. The only thing he has done better than me is winning the Balon D’Or,” he told Kumasi FM.

Amankwah Mireku ended his own debate by adding that all the comparisons he had made above do not mean that he can compare himself with the highest-paid player at Barcelona.

“But the sad reality is whether I can compare myself to him in terms of wealth,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, both Amankwah Mireku and Lionel Messi do not have a national team trophy to their name.
