I'm ready to leave Kotoko - KK Sarpong

Under-fire Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong says he is ready to leave the club if the owner and the 'irate' fans want to.

Dr. Sarpong has come under intense criticisms from the media and a section of the Kumasi Asante Kotoko fans following the team’s failure to progress in the ongoing CAF Champions league last Sunday.

The former Tema Oil Refinery Boss admits in a radio interview with Accra-based Hot FM that there are unseen hands who want the owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to fire him.

“People really organised fans to boo me after the game all because we failed to progress to the next stage of the CAF Champions league. If they want me to go, I will go. I don’t play or don’t wear number 7 so why do they blame me for our failure.

"Those fans have really forgotten so soon when I took the team, I told them we are rebuilding. We never promised them that we will win the Champions league so why all this?, he retorted.

Dr. Sarpong’s three-year mandate ends by the close of the season and there are rumours he could be given a two-year extension by the patron of the club, the Asantehene.

In his tenure, the club has won the Premier League, reached the FA Cup finals and won the Champion of champions’ trophy.
