Asante Kotoko’s Ivorian import Ahmed Toure has told Goal.com he has never stated anywhere that he is no longer interested in playing for Ghana.

The 24-year-old had given the Ghana FA the permission to go ahead to pursue a nationality switch on his behalf a few months ago in order to meet his desire of playing for the Black Stars.

However, Ghanasoccernet published on Thursday that the Kumasi-based in-form striker had ditched his adopted country by pledging allegiance to his native nation upon a visit of an Ivorian Federation delegation.

Explaining issues to Goal.com exclusively, Toure confirmed having met officials from the Ivory Coast FA, who were bent on persuading him to commit to the west African country, however, he stood his ground.

“I’m really shocked and sad to hear such story,” Toure lamented to Goal.com. “I have made a decision to play for Ghana and that is final. I’m not changing my mind and I have never told anyone that I am not interested.”

“The officials [from Ivory Coast] wanted me to change my mind because they promised to give me a place in the Ivorian national team, but I said ‘no’ and I really don’t know who is going round to tell the world that I have neglected Ghana.

“I’m a professional footballer and an adult so when I make a decision a lot goes into it. I cannot come out and say I want Ghana today and then the next day Ivory Coast. That will be childish and I’m not that kind of person,” a very upset Toure said.

The Porcupine Warriors talisman said he is aware of delays associated with nationality switches and has resolved to remain calm until the final results.

“Is the Ghana FA Fifa?” he quipped. “Why should I be annoyed if the whole process is delaying? I have made a choice and I have total confidence in the Ghana officials to help me reach that dream. So far as I’m concerned Ghana is the country I want to play for and that decision is final,” Toure declared.
