Head Coach of the Black Queens and former referee, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoe has admitted that as a referee, she made certain decisions that she regretted.
Speaking at the Happy FM-led virtual sports forum titled ‘The Effect of COVID-19 on football; the perspective of Ghanaian coaches’, she said: “As a referee, I made some decisions I regretted. A referee is an instant judge. What I may see as yellow, my assistant may see as blue. We are humans and we sometimes make mistakes”.
She noted that as a referee, you need not be authoritative. She was of the view that referees are supposed to be nice to the players even though they give out the appropriate punishment.
“As a referee, you must be nice to everybody. But when it comes where you need to punish, you must do it”, she added.
Mrs. Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoe diverted into becoming a referee and received her FIFA badge in 2005.
She officiated at the highest level and took part in several continental and international tournaments before quitting refereeing in 2012.
