Vice President of the Ghana Football Association and Management Committee Chairman of the Black Stars, George Afriyie says the four-time African champions will soon win the Afcon trophy after coming close to winning it on numerous occasions.

The West African country has been striving to win their fifth Afcon trophy after their last exploits in 1982 in Libya.

Numerous die-hard fans of the West African giants on most occasions have bemoaned the Black Stars inability to win a major silverware since their triumph in 1982.

But the Vice President of the federation has assured all that the dream will soon be realized.

“Over the years the Black Stars have strived hard to come very close right from 1992 down to 2015. In 1992 we came close but we were beaten on penalties by Ivory Coast.”

“We came close to annexing the trophy in 2010 but we were beaten by Egypt 1-0 and in 2015 we were very close,” Afryie opined.

He however, added that in no time the former African champions will reclaim their lost glory by winning the Afcon title for the fifth time.

“But with all these difficulties, Ghanaians will soon be smiling. We shall reclaim our lost glory very soon. I am sure of that.”

Ghana is currently of top their group in the 2017 Afcon qualifier after beating Mauritius and Rwanda in the opening qualifying matches.
