Ghanaian footballer Nii Odartey Lamptey has expressed his gratitude to God for being alive despite enduring numerous hardships, ranging from personal issues with his ex-wife to challenges in his football career with various clubs.

He mentioned that the problems with his ex-wife and their children, coupled with public backlash, took a significant toll on him, making him feel that he should have been dead by now.

Odartey also shared that being tipped to replace the legendary Pele at the start of his career, but failing to reach that level, often brings him to tears.

In an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, the legendary footballer expressed his appreciation to God for keeping him alive despite the challenges he has faced.

"Sometimes I cry inside when I think about not being able to replace Pele as some people expected. I would say I didn't meet the right people in my life to reach that goal. When I reflect on everything I've been through from my footballing days until now, it's not easy. I think I should have been dead by now.

"But God has kept me alive. I have achieved a lot in football, so I am okay... I know people who conducted DNA tests, and when the results didn't go in their favor, their lives changed. Some had strokes and other issues, so I would advise people to focus on their careers instead of personal issues," he said in Twi.

It will be recalled that Odartey Lamptey trended on social media after it was revealed that he was not the father of the children with his ex-wife following a DNA test.

The issue became a hot topic after his ex-wife attempted to claim some of his properties, which the court ruled in his favor.
