Ghana star Jeffrey Schlupp has hinted that he told Andros Townsend to shoot after the midfielder scored what could contest the Premiership goal of the season against Manchester City on Saturday.
The Citizen failed to clear their lines and the ball got to Townsend who hit a non-dropped 30-yard volley into the net with goalkeeper Eduardo well beaten for Palace second goal.
Schlupp pointed out that he told his colleague to hammer the shot because City City could have initiated a counter-attack.
“It was a wonderful goal and a special moment, I was shouting for him to shoot because if they get it on the edge of their box they can break well because they are so good on the counter-attack but he had no doubt in his head and got it on target and scored a wonderful goal.” Schlupp told Crystal Palace TV
“It means a lot confidence-wise, we have not been playing that badly but have maybe not had the luck in previous games and it is always nice to get a few goals as well as we have not managed to score as many goals as we would have liked but when we have players going forward and playing with confidence you can see what we can do,.
“We took positives from recent performances into this one and we are all delighted to get three points.”
Palace are now 14th on the league log with 18 points.
