Red Star Belgrade defender Rashid Sumaila has expressed his belief that coach Kwesi Appiah will lead the Black Stars to clinch the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The four-time champions are seeking to end their 37-year wait for continental success, having won their last title in 1982.
Kwesi Appiah's side have come close to ending their drought at the last six tournaments, having reached the semi-finals, and even going as far as the final in 2010 and 2015.
“I trust that coach Kwesi Appiah will lead us to victory in the upcoming AFCON tournament in Egypt,” Sumaila told GHANASoccernet.com
The 26-year-old has been on the fringes at club side Red Star Belgrade but he’s reported to have attracted offers from French side St Etienne and Danish club Randers FC.
He deduced that he is open to serving his beloved nation anytime coach Appiah hands him a call-up.
Coach Appiah is yet to name his squad for the final match of the qualifier against the Harambee Stars of Kenya, which is set to come off on March 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
With a match to spare, Black Stars have already secured qualification for the tournament, which is set to run between June 15 and July 13.
